The 2017-18 season began on Sunday with an air of optimism pervading the whole day.

A good crowd was at Castletown-Geoghegan to welcome in the new season with a notable local winner adding to the warm atmosphere.
With 61 of the 77 original entries standing their ground, the declaration percentage of 79 was higher than any meeting staged throughout the whole of last season.

Adding the extra 60-odd horses who schooled after racing into the equation, with box loads of horses travelling from far and wide in order to get an educational run, it bodes well for the remainder of the autumn campaign.
