Honeysuckle and Constitution Hill reflect riches found in Irish point fields

THE Cheltenham Festival once again proved a perfect advertisement for the riches to be found in the point-to-point sphere in Ireland. Ten festival races went to horses who began their careers in the pointing nursery.

Unsurprisingly, Honeysuckle was the undoubted star of the show as far as point-to-pointing exports were concerned. The star mare preserved her unbeaten record – a sequence of victories which has now risen to 15 since her debut win in a four-year-old mares’ maiden – when she retained her Champion Hurdle crown.

Her success came two hours after Constitution Hill had put up one of the finest performances seen by a novice hurdler for some time with a 22-length victory in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
