Hard to trust bonkers Champions Day form - but several beaten horses stood out for next summer

It is tough to take stock of Champions Day and look for future bets, and that's not just because two of the winners returned at three-figure prices.

It is because several of the big players have options at stud and may not return, while the ante-post markets that do exist for next year are underdeveloped.

You could argue backing Trawlerman for next year's Gold Cup at 6-1 is a logical move given the weakness of the staying division. He has proved the dominant force in the long distance races this year — it's hard to believe he notched just his second Group 1 race on Saturday.
