Gigginstown newcomer Felix Desjy destined for better things
Eddie Hales, the trainer responsible for starting off Don Cossack in a Punchestown festival bumper in May 2011, sent out his first point winner for Gigginstown House Stud when the French-bred newcomer Felix Desjy turned the Goffs UK Aintree Sale four-year-old maiden into a procession to initiate a double for rider Declan Queally.
The winning son of Maresca Sorrento made most of the running until challenged by Momus, in the same ownership but trained by Pat Doyle, four out. The latter was beaten from the penultimate obstacle as Felix Desjy, a €29,000 graduate of last year’s Goffs Land Rover sale, stormed clear on the run to the last to beat favourite Big Debates for Robert Tyner by 15 lengths in the style of a horse we will be hearing a lot more about.
Hales, always one with a good line in self-depreciation, remarked: “That was good and it’s my first winner of the season. I’d imagine he’ll now go to a proper trainer.”
