The growing level of success of Irish pointers in America was evident when the first three events at Callaway, the only American jumps fixture of the weekend, were won by former pointers.

Denis Murphy’s Goodoldtimes began the day's action when winning a $20,000 3m1f novice timber race under former point-to-point rider Brian Linehan, who has carved out a successful career for himself in America.

The five-year-old son of Gold Well had won a five-year-old geldings’ maiden at Rathcannon in April, and Saturday’s victory came on just his second start for Leslie Young, having been bought for £65,000 at the Cheltenham Sale in April.
