Talk about the ups and downs of racing. I made a perfect start to the new season at Toomebridge on Saturday with a double from my only two rides on the card, only to crash down to Earth in the first race at Castletown-Geoghegan on Sunday.

I was riding the favourite Flamenco De Kerser for Pat Doyle, and we were going along nicely in the lead when he overjumped at the eighth. It wasn’t a bad fall, but I ended up getting a kick that has left me with a broken shoulder blade.

It’s far from the worst injury but obviously it’s a disappointing setback coming so close to the start of the season. I’ll know a bit more when I see a specialist on Wednesday, but I hope to be back in action in three or four weeks.
