THE Liscarroll committee rolled out the red carpet on Sunday as they had the privilege of hosting President Higgins at their north Cork track.

Higgins has a close connection with the area as his mother, Alice, was born in the parish. He spent two days in the county, where he also attended a lecture by Pádraig Héalaí and mass in Cúil Aodha.

The chance to see the president up close proved a big draw, with a large number of spectators making the most of the long-awaited arrival of spring weather to take in the day’s celebrations.
