Bad memories of insurance saga triggered as Loughrea falls victim to legal issue

Last weekend’s point-to-point action had a low-key feel with the programme cut in half by the cancellation of Loughrea due to legal concerns, while just 33 runners took to the track at the sole surviving fixture at Moira.

News of the cancellation of the Galway Blazers fixture was released on Thursday morning and was met by widespread concern as it triggered memories of the insurance difficulties which hung over the sport throughout much of last season.

Several fixtures were cancelled in late 2021 and January 2022 due to the difficulties faced by hunt committees in securing insurance cover.
