The privatisation of French national lottery operator and state gaming monopoly Francaise des Jeux (FDJ) has been hailed a success, although it may not spark a revolution in the country's gambling industry.

The French government is expected to net around €2 billion from the initial public offering (IPO), with shares in FDJ traded for the first time on Thursday.

FDJ's chairwoman and chief executive Stephane Pallez said the IPO was a "tremendous success, with individuals as well as domestic and international institutional investors".
