Michael Owen doesn't need much advice in scoring goals with a ball – 40 international goals to add to his 163 at club level testify to that. However, it could be a little while before he starts to net winners in the saddle after the ex-Liverpool striker switched to boots of a different variety when given a riding lesson by Ryan Moore.

"My thighs are killing me!" cried the 36-year-old – who was put through his paces as a British Champions Series ambassador – during his Equicizer routine, before Moore politely suggested his technique was "a little too loose".

After a brief introduction, and once Moore's son Toby had got Owen's hands and rein in the right place, Owen took a spin on the simulator over the six-furlong trip of the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot.
