Why do I love racing? So many reasons. It’s the only sport I know that brings all walks of life together, without argument or conflict, to enjoy the sport, share their stories and theories and maybe, just maybe, pick a winner. All that in stunning locations where you can spend time with family and friends, over a beer and a bun, or around a table for a slap-up meal.

I love the collective admiration for a winner or a trier, and the collective desolation for one who tried too hard and didn’t return.

The love, dedication and pride shown every day in the paddock by all the staff who work with the horses has been shown off at its best this week, as has the sportsmanship of the owners and trainers and their willingness to congratulate in success and commiserate in failure.
