In 2007, England travelled to Ireland to play in the Six Nations. This was a particularly special occasion as the game was played at Croke Park, a ground which had always been exclusively used for GAA sports. It's a stadium that has always been closely associated with Irish national pride and is very much the iconic Irish sporting venue.
There was a lot of discussion in the Irish press about how the crowd would react to the playing of God Save The Queen. Contrary to the predictions and the fears of many, there was a standing ovation after the English anthem – it was a very proud moment to be Irish. Of course, the day was helped by the fact that Ireland proceeded to England a proper hiding.
