It was great to see so many trainers, jockeys and owners supporting the cause
Environmental scientist Mike O'Keeffe, 29, on why he fell in love with the sport
There was no one particular moment that got me hooked on racing, I just loved going to the festivals at Tralee and Listowel with my father. I loved the crowds, standing at the parade ring looking at all the horses and the buzz of being able to stand at the rails as the horses raced by.
Listowel's Harvest festival is still my favourite meeting, although Limerick would be my favourite track – being there for the charity raceday in aid of JT McNamara and Jonjo Bright in 2013 was one of my most memorable moments. It was great to see so many big-name trainers, jockeys, owners and other personalities involved in racing there supporting and highlighting the cause. Racing should hold more events like this.
As for my earliest racing memory, it was Observatory beating Giant's Causeway by half a length in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot in 2000. Since then, my favourite Flat horses have been Rock Of Gibraltar and the sensational Sea The Stars. Over jumps, it has to be Cheltenham hero Istabraq.
