'We got them for £14,000 and turned them into two of the best in the country'

The trainer talks to senior features writer Peter Thomas about his big-race pair

It's April, spring has more or less sprung and many trainers' thoughts are turning to speed. At Ogmore Farm in Glamorgan, though, they're not so sure.

While some are consumed by the task of honing raw pace for the tests of the high summer, Christian Williams has Saturday's Coral Scottish Grand National on his mind, with two horses he is happy to declare have had such fripperies as high velocity and blistering turns of foot trained out of them.

Kitty's Light and Win My Wings may be exciting animals taking high rank in the betting for the Ayr showpiece, but they are certainly not as quick as they used to be.
