As the full extent of the coronavirus pandemic started to become known, it was clear that what was described by experts as a slow-moving tsunami would have implications for the whole world.

That has come to pass at all levels of business and life, and County Cork-based trainer Terence O'Brien was among those left unsure whether he should batten down the hatches and prepare for the worst or brave the storm until he was told it was no longer safe to carry on.

That decision was taken out of his hands when all sporting events in Ireland were cancelled by the government for the foreseeable future almost a fortnight ago.
