Derek Fox: 'I could have walked on air - it was the highest of highs'
The Grand National-winning jockey, 30, talks to Scott Burton
What was your big break?
The best decision I've made was moving to Lucinda Russell's yard. I was lucky enough to have a winner on my first ride for her. It started off well and got me into a way of going, getting more rides in Britain. One For Arthur came up a few years later and that was on a different level. Lucinda is a top-class trainer and keeps a nice stamp of a horse in the yard, while Peter Scudamore is the greatest influence I've had in my life. He's been terrific in every way and he's always there to talk to and will give you advice on anything you ask.
What are you most looking forward to?
It's going well and there's nothing other than to keep going along the same way. I hope to keep getting plenty of rides and plenty of winners. Luckily, I have a few lovely horses to ride.
What did you make of Ahoy Senor's run in the King George?
He jumped well and I don't know if Kempton suits him quite as well as other tracks, but I was very happy with the way he ran. He's going the right way, so I'm looking forward to him heading into the spring.
