Lingfield’s summer Saturday evening fixtures are hugely popular, whatever the standard of racing, and form a key element in the track’s thriving economy.

They are well promoted both locally and throughout the south-east, and the track’s accessibility by a direct train service from London and via the nearby M25 is an obvious asset in this respect.

Unfortunately - and this, of course, is not a phenomenon confined to Lingfield - fights tend to break out where large crowds gather and copious quantities of alcohol are taken in hot weather, and this has spoiled the experience for many of those who unwittingly find themselves witness to them.
