'I'd love to go to the States and ride in the Breeders' Cup'
Apprentice George Wood, 20, takes part in our weekly grilling
Your season kicked off with a memorable win in the first race of the Guineas meeting. What was that moment like?
It was brilliant. All my family were up there and obviously it's a big day, so it was great to get a big win like that. It was only my third career win and looking back now, if I hadn't got it, I don't think I'd be riding every day like I am now, so it helped me out a lot.
Do you feel you have improved as a rider throughout this season?
A hell of a lot. When you first start out, everything is a big rush. You're riding once every other week and you panic a bit in races and get after them from three and a half furlongs out. Now, I feel like I can sit on one until the furlong marker and then go, which just comes from experience.
Who do you most look up to in the weighing room?
Obviously Ryan Moore is exceptional but on a more personal level, lads like Freddy Tylicki and Tom Queally have been really good to me. I have been riding out with them twice a week since I started in Newmarket and they have both been a great help and given me some good advice.
