David Jennings hears how Galway put the Flat jockeys' title favourite on the map
It is scorching out, touching 27 degrees, and there is no Flat racing in Ireland for the first time in a fortnight, so the last thing Colin Keane wants to be doing on a rare afternoon off is sitting in a coffee shop outside his home town of Trim talking about himself. It is too sweaty for small talk, so let's get on with it.
If the Ballydoyle job became available in the morning would you take it?
"I want myself and Ger [Lyons] to progress together," he says. "I'd love for Ger to have 20 proper Group 1 horses. We're progressing together every season and I want that to continue. He is getting a better quality of horse all the time and I've improved so much since I started with him. I'm very happy where I am at the moment, I'm in a very good place mentally."
