The introduction of a single customer view (SCV) has been described as "a great opportunity" in the battle against problem gambling by Gambling Commission chief executive Andrew Rhodes, but the Horseracing Bettors Forum (HBF) has concerns about its potential impact on punters.

Under the SCV, if a bettor's behavioural data hits certain trigger points with an operator, that would be fed into an SCV tool, which will produce a 'risk score' or 'banding' for that bettor. That score/banding would then be shared with other operators, who would be expected to intervene.

In October, the SCV moved a step nearer when the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) advised the Gambling Commission that such a system could work under data protection law.
