Hopes new four-year-old series will be success despite meagre entry for opener

It must be hoped a tree will grow from the sapling that is a new British series of races restricted to four-year-old point-to-pointers.

The first of five such contests, sponsored by the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (TBA) and due to be held between now and early May, begins on Sunday at Larkhill, yet has drawn a mere five entries.

Talk of supporting the series by owners and trainers who take a commercial view seems, in this instance at least, to have been just that – talk and no action.
