Hooked on racing thanks to the Cheltenham Festival and despite Annie's fall
Andre Clarke, 20, on why he's a racing fan
Although I remember watching the Grand National every year with my family – my parents would put a £1 each-way bet on for each of us – it was last year’s Cheltenham Festival that really got me hooked. I fell in love with it on the first day when I had the Douvan, Un De Sceaux, Faugheen and Annie Power four-fold – Annie’s still one of my favourite horses despite losing the bet!
The buzz of the festival is just amazing. Everyone is excited for it months in advance and the whole four days are just so fun – as soon as last that first festival was over I was looking forward to the next.
I enjoy Flat racing too, with Glorious Goodwood being my favourite meeting – it’s a beautiful track and full of great races. I bet on both codes – my best bets were £10 on Golden Horn to win the Arc at 12-1 just after he was beaten in the Juddmonte International and £5 on Vautour to win the Ryanair Chase at 15-1 when everyone thought he was going to the Gold Cup.
