Hearn on a high after Betting Shop Manager of the Year success
Ron Hearn, a late adopter of email and the internet, had stayed well clear of both until relatively recently.
Yet last Wednesday morning, after landing the Racing Post/SIS Betting Shop Manager of the Year title, he was sifting through and answering countless messages of congratulations while high-fiving and serving customers entering his shop, adjacent to Charlton station and The Valley, home of the League One football club.
Modern multi-tasking and communication is now the norm for him too. "It took me a while to enter the 20th century, never mind the 21st," he grins.
