It's difficult to split Millyant, her son Mirza and Serious Attitude. They're all favourites but My Emma stands out as my first Group 1 winner.

Her owner-breeder, Lord Matthews, was very ill and wanted to see her run once before he died, so she had one race at two, which gave her a bit of experience.

The following spring she had a small problem with her breathing and had an operation to remove a polyp from her nose, so she missed all the maiden races. I said to Lord Matthews’ son, Ian, that I felt she was good enough to run in black-type races, so we went straight to the Lancashire Oaks.
