What we like to term the serious jumps season is almost upon us and already the destination of one championship appears abundantly clear.

The last two seasons involved a lot of speculation about the race for the trainers’ title. In 2016-17, and again in 2017-18, a lot of chat centred on whether Gordon Elliott would end the run of consecutive championships won by Willie Mullins.

Elliott charged into an early lead in both campaigns, only to be reeled in and overtaken by Mullins in the last week of the season at the Punchestown festival.
