Parental tensions arise when one parent has a completely different view on an aspect of child-rearing to the other – a mother and a father rarely sing in unison on all matters – and these issues can reveal themselves in the oddest of manners.
My daughter is thrilled with her new dolls house, which comes equipped with a door-bell, a noise now heard regularly in our lounge. When wife and I are in 'play mode' and the dolls house door-bell rings, wifey always says: "Come in!"
In stark contrast, I always say: "Who's there?" This may seem a little thing to you, but it speaks volumes about how we are teaching Grace to react to people visiting her residence. I think it is downright reckless to train a child that the natural way to respond to somebody attempting to enter your building is to happily wave them in, whoever they may be.
