I don’t know what you’ve been doing for the past four years, but I’ve had a lovely time. I’ve been on holiday, watched my family growing up, witnessed unprecedented turmoil in the arena of world politics and finished War and Peace. I’m not so sure about the compilers of the Racing Post’s 2018 World Cup Guide, though.
Legends of their whereabouts are manifold, but I have it on good authority that an industrious team has been locked in a darkened room in the Post’s high-security bunker since the final whistle blew in Rio in 2014, chained to their desks, with fish paste sandwiches and rudimentary toilet facilities provided on a basis of urgent need.
