Brilliant Vanguard
Trainer: Kevin Ryan
5th, Sandown, July 2

Dead-heated on soft ground at Pontefract in April but I suspect this three-year-old was hindered by the slow conditions in this 7f handicap. He was restrained early in rear and raced freely until the pace lifted in the straight. Despite these exertions he improved his position to finish fifth, faring better than most of the horses who were held up, with the first three home prominent throughout. Expect improvement when encountering better ground.
