Last week the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) officially became the industry's new trade association and the work stepped up a gear for the organisation's first chairman Brigid Simmonds.

The council replaces the Association of British Bookmakers and Remote Gambling Association and is set to represent more than 90 per cent of the gambling sector.

Simmonds joined the BGC after ten years as chief executive of the British Beer & Pub Association but she has extensive experience of the sports sector as well as gambling.
