Another first for New Jersey as fixed-odds online betting on racing begins

A new milestone for the American gambling industry has been reached with online fixed-odds betting being offered for the first time on horseracing at Monmouth Park in New Jersey.

The state was the driving force behind the effort to legalise sports betting in the US, which culminated in the repeal of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (Paspa) in 2018, and last year passed legislation to end the monopoly of pari-mutuel betting on racing in New Jersey.

By that point Australian betting technology company BetMakers had already secured an exclusive ten-year agreement with the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen Association and Darby Development, the operator of Monmouth Park, to deliver and manage fixed-odds betting on horseracing in the state.
