Favourite found to have bled after shock Cheveley Park flop

Wesley Ward has spoken of his relief at finding a reason for Lady Aurelia's shock Cheveley Park Stakes defeat at Newmarket on Saturday as he revealed the filly had bled during the race.

The previously unbeaten daughter of Scat Daddy faded in her bid to make all under Frankie Dettori, managing only third behind Brave Anna and Roly Poly – a reverse that stunned her trainer.

Now Ward is content that he can excuse the performance, with his thoughts firmly fixed on a return to Royal Ascot for Lady Aurelia next summer.
