Fabre's Derby entry cut for Classic glory plus other Epsom market movers

1 of 1

The 2021 Flat season is well under way and it's full steam ahead to the first of the Irish Classics this month – the Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas and Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas – and next month's Epsom Classics, the Cazoo Derby and Cazoo Oaks.

Market movers come thick and fast as the key Classic trials are run in Britain and Ireland, but big-race contenders can come from anywhere and it's easy to miss a potential dark horse. Classic Clues, our new series running every morning, has you covered.

Here's a recap of Monday's action and how it's impacted the Classic betting, while we mark your card with key names to note today.

Racing round-up: Stream strikes

Andre Fabre's sole Cazoo Derby entry Media Stream landed a conditions race at Saint-Cloud on Monday with bet365 cutting his odds to 66-1 (from 250).

Sky Bet were more impressed by the length-and-three-quarter success, shortening Media Stream, a brother to Ebor runner-up Weekender, to 25-1 (from 33).

John Leeper, who holds entries in the Dante at York on Thursday and the Fairway Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday, was cut to 20-1 (from 25) with William Hill for the Derby.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained High Definition missed last week's Lingfield Derby Trial due to an unsatisfactory blood count but is set to be declared for the Dante on Tuesday morning.

High Definition is a best-price 6-1 second favourite for the Derby with Sky Bet and Betfred behind stablemate and 7-4 favourite Bolshoi Ballet, who was an impressive winner of the Derby Trial at Leopardstown on Sunday.

What they said

Aidan O'Brien, trainer of High Definition
We're happy with what he did this morning, so the plan is for him to be declared for the Dante. His bloods were done this morning and we won't get the results back until the evening. If his bloods are okay, then the plan is for him to be declared and it'll be done again in the morning. If that's okay then he'll be going.

Today's action: Chantilly clues

French Classic clues are likely to be unearthed this afternoon as Prix du Jockey Club favourite Adhamo (2.50) contests the Prix de Guiche over 1m1f at Chantilly.

Almanzor was the last horse to win this Group 3 on the way to Classic glory in 2016 and the Fabre-trained Adhamo sets the standard after a three-length success in the Prix la Force at Longchamp last month.

Maxime Guyon's mount, who is 6-1 joint-favourite with St Mark's Basilica for the Prix du Jockey Club with Paddy Power, has won his last four starts and faces five rivals, most notably Criterium de Saint-Cloud third Makaloun.

There could be a pointer to the Oaks undercard at Killarney as Coronation Cup entry (8.15) is a hot favourite for the finale.

This four-year-old finished third in last year's Derby and won for the first time at Dundalk last month. He is a 14-1 chance for the Coronation Cup with William Hill and a general 20-1 shot for the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.
