Who do our experts fancy for next season's 2,000 and 1,000 Guineas?

Battleground: favourite for next season's 2,000 Guineas
1 of 1

'He should make up into an even better three-year-old'

Recency bias can often cloud views when trying to predict future stars, but I'm sticking with Battleground for the 2,000 Guineas even though we haven't seen him since Goodwood. He should make up into an even better three-year-old and did nothing wrong this season. For the 1,000 Guineas I'll be interested to see how Lucid Dreamer winters and hopefully she will take in a trial before heading to Newmarket in the spring.

Chindit: lost unbeaten record in Dewhurst

'Two or three points bigger than it should be'

The 1,000 Guineas looks pretty straightforward to me. Pretty Gorgeous should be shorter and the 8-1 available is about two or three points bigger than it should be. The 2,000 Guineas is trickier to solve, but Cadillac is 20-1 and that looks the value at this stage. Nothing went right for him in the Dewhurst, but he was not beaten far and his Leopardstown victory over Van Gogh looks cracking form now.

'I've long been a fan of Chindit'

Fillies' Mile winner Pretty Gorgeous understandably heads the 1,000 Guineas market, but there's little value in her price (8-1) at this stage and I'd rather side with the promising Monsoon Moon and the Aidan O'Brien-trained Cartouche, who have flown under the radar at 25-1 and 33-1 respectively.

Regarding the colts, I've long been a fan of Chindit and although he lost his unbeaten record when ninth in the Dewhurst, I'm willing to excuse him that effort. Soft ground wouldn't have been ideal and he didn't have a clear run throughout the final two furlongs.
