The exciting Palace Pier, unbeaten in two starts for trainer John Gosden, will not run again this season after sustaining a leg injury.

The colt caught the eye with an impressive maiden win at Sandown in August before defying a penalty at the same track this month to maintain his perfect record.

It was suggested afterwards that the juvenile would be aimed at the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère on Arc day, but connections have chosen to draw stumps for this year and aim for the Greenham Stakes at Newbury next term.

Gosden said: "Palace Pier was found to have a tibia injury after his last win at Sandown and will miss the rest of the season. Hopefully, he'll be back for the Greenham next spring."

Purchased for 600,000gns at Tattersalls last October, Palace Pier is a general 20-1 chance for next year's Qipco 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket.

The son of Kingman looks another potentially top-class prospect for his sire, who has produced French 2,000 Guineas winner Persian King, St James's Palace Stakes runner-up King Of Comedy and 2018 Coventry Stakes scorer Calyx.

Jash likely to miss Qipco British Champions Sprint

The Simon Crisford-trained Jash, runner-up to Ten Sovereigns in last year's Group 1 Middle Park Stakes, looks likely to miss the Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot next month.

After making a winning return this season in the Listed Betway King Charles II Stakes at Newmarket in May, the three-year-old then finished down the field in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and has not been seen in public since.

His owner Hamdan Al Maktoum’s representative Richard Hills said: “Jash has had niggling little problem after niggling little problem since Royal Ascot and maybe time is catching up as far as another run this year is concerned.

“We will continue to monitor the situation as far as a run in the Champions Sprint at Ascot is concerned, but there is no point going there unless he is spot on.

"He's going to make a lovely horse for next year as he has only had a handful of races and, hopefully, he remains progressive and there is more to come.”

Jash began his career in winning mode with a ready debut victory at Newmarket 13 months ago before romping to a follow-up success at Salisbury, where he was long odds-on favourite.

He was then stepped up to Group 1 company for the Middle Park and found only this season’s July Cup hero Ten Sovereigns half a length too good on that occasion.
