Everything you need with a Grade 1 and a National topping the bill

It is one of Plumpton's big days of the year
1 of 1

We have lost Newcastle, which had originally been set for Saturday, anyway, but even on a day when the Racing Post celebrates northern jump racing we will freely admit today was always going to be about Plumpton, at least in Britain.

The Sussex National is one of the big races of the year at Plumpton and it headlines a seven-race card that is the sum total of the British action today.

Over in Ireland, the Grade 1 Lawlor's Of Naas Novice Hurdle looks like a chance for Next Destination to shine, but he does come up against point and maiden hurdle winner Speak Easy, who is still very much a wild card.

Going report

Plumpton - first race 12.30
Heavy, soft in places

Naas - 12.40
Soft to heavy

Market movers

3.45 Plumpton: Soul Saver into 11-4 (from 7-2)

What to back

Let our team guide you through all of the Sunday action in the Postcast.

What to read

The Q&A from RP Sunday is free to read this weekend, and features a few things you didn't know about footballer-turned-trainer Philip Kirby.

There is also plenty to smile about in the latest good news week.

The best of Racing Post Sport

The BDO World Darts Championship started yesterday. Catch up with our look at the outright betting.

There is also a full book of NFL action to come, including Titans at the Chiefs.

Final thought

In all the justified clamour about James Bowen, who handled Raz De Maree nervelessly in Saturday's Welsh National, it is to be hoped that it isn't forgotten just what a talent big brother Sean, himself barely 20, is and could yet be.

It is no exaggeration to say that if the pair land in the right jobs, we will probably in the next decade see two brothers fighting for the Stobart Jockeys' Championship, providing racing with a truly transcendent story.
