James Best is hoping a fine summer can help him beat his seasonal-best tally of winners as he made his return to the saddle at Warwick on Tuesday following a setback he suffered at Worcester last month.

Best was unseated from Cloud Formation in the 2m7f handicap chase at the track on August 22 and despite taking up his remaining two mounts on that card as well as the following day without any effects, a delayed concussion was subsequently discovered which kept him out of action for a month.

The jockey made his return when finishing fourth on the Martin Keighley-trained Brianna Rose in the mares' bumper at Warwick and was delighted to return to the saddle so soon ahead of a busy autumn.

He said: "I got unseated at Worcester on the Sunday, but then it wasn't until the Wednesday morning when I rode out and realised something wasn't quite right. It was a strange thing to have as I'd never had it before.

"Luckily my physiotherapist, Emma Edwards, only lives 15 minutes away from me. She was a big help and I had to give my body the best chance to get better as soon as I could. It's great to be back now."

The jockey, best known for riding dual Becher Chase hero Walk In The Mill, already has 11 victories this term and has his sights set on beating the career-best 25 winners he rode in the 2013-14 season.

"I was very pleased with the summer to get as many winners as I did, hopefully I can kick on as every season you want to ride more winners," he added. "I want to keep my head down and work hard, hopefully the continued support of the trainers I ride for can keep me that way."
