The Queen was denied a first winner in Canada as Dartmouth finished second to the impressive French raider Erupt (Francis-Henri Graffard/Stephane Pasquier), who displayed a striking turn of foot to prevail in a dash to the line.

In a race run at a steady gallop, Dartmouth was well poised to strike on the heels of leader World Approval as the field turned for home, but he could not match Erupt's change of gear as the winner tracked the runner-up before charging clear.
