It's fantastic news for Frankie Dettori – the chances are he's now got on his third Derby winner.

English King is already favourite for the Epsom showpiece and has every right to be an awful lot shorter in a race that lacks a standout rival.

The way he won the Lingfield Derby Trial had Derby written all over it and, with Anthony Van Dyck and Anapurna having put to bed the somewhat ludicrous notion that Lingfield is a poor trial ground for Epsom with their Classic double last year, he has a huge amount in his favour. His stamina is guaranteed and he is proven around the sort of sweeping left-hand bends and undulations he will face at Epsom.
