Enable set to be star turn at Newmarket's showcase event
John Gosden has revealed his stable star and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hot favourite Enable is to appear on day two of the Newmarket Open Weekend on Sunday, September 17.
The four-time Group 1 winner will appear at the Warren Hill gallop event, which has been revived this year and takes place between 8am and 9am.
After the gallop programme, more than 20 stables will be opening their doors, with Charlie Appleby's yard at Moulton Paddocks and Roger Varian's new stable at Carlburg sure to be among the most popular.
Organiser Johnno Spence said: "It's fantastic that the public will be able to see Enable cantering as well as many of the other Newmarket stars and I'm sure the yards will be more popular than ever with Godolphin and Roger Varian opening up again this year.
"We've brought the two-day event forward this year to allow people enough time to get around all the equine sites that are open, including the Jockey Club Rooms and the Newmarket Equine Hospital, which are always popular."
Also on the Sunday of the two-day event, sponsored by 32Red, the equally popular Clipper Logistics Racing Personality Show Jumping Competition, won last year by Pat Cosgrave, is set to return.
This year, James Doyle, Silvestre de Sousa, and Josephine Gordon will test their skills in the Open Weekend arena for the first time, whilst ITV’s Francesca Cumani has agreed to leave her microphone at home for the day and make her debut for the trainers against the jockeys.
Gordon said; “It's always a highlight of the weekend and I'm looking forward to taking part in the competition this year. The jockeys may have the advantage, but every pole counts and we’ll need to be careful that a trainer doesn’t sneak in with a nice and steady clear.”
