Enable: another Sea The Stars or will favourite fail to oblige
When Enable lines up in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday some will see her as banker material, the rock-solid mile-and-a-half ace who has danced every dance this term, demonstrating her talent as well as constitution.
Others, however, will not dare side with a filly who seems likely to go off the first odds-on Arc favourite since the brilliant Sea The Stars in 2009.
It worked out for him, as it did fellow hotpot Zarkava a year earlier, but Postponed did not justify market support 12 months ago, folding tamely against Aidan O'Brien's Found-led trio, while Treve's bid for an unprecedented Arc hat-trick was derailed in 2015 behind Golden Horn, whose trainer John Gosden and jockey Frankie Dettori are the men responsible for Enable.
Other jollies not to come good in Europe's richest race include Derby heroes Authorized and High Chaparral, while Montjeu went off a 4-5 chance in 2000 to retain his Arc crown but could manage only fourth as Sinndar powered home.
He had, however, been the toast of favourite backers a year earlier when Mick Kinane inspired him to victory over Japanese raider El Condor Pasa.
