Enable has taken control of the race to be crowned Cartier horse of the year courtesy of her Chantilly demolition job on Sunday.

In winning her fifth Group 1 of the year in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Enable took back the top spot from Winter, who had leapfrogged the dual Oaks winner when the ranking were last updated in September.

Enable is the first to break the 200-point mark and holds a commanding lead over Winter, with another Arc runner Ulysses back in third as the Flat season enters its final stages.

Harry Herbert, Cartier’s racing consultant, said: "Enable’s breath-taking victory at Chantilly was out of the top drawer and she must rank as one of the best three-year-old fillies of the modern era.

"She's set to be crowned Cartier Horse of the Year 2017, barring a truly sensational performance by another horse. The season is far from over, however, with Newmarket’s Dubai Future Champions Festival and Qipco British Champions Day at Ascot to look forward to this month."

Results at Chantilly on Sunday also had an impact on the race for the Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly title, with Happily now dominating proceedings following her win against the colts in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.

She leads the way on 80 points from her stablemate Clemmie, who has 56 points following her first Group 1 win in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket.

Points accumulated from Pattern races through the season contribute towards 30 per cent of the final verdict of the Cartier Racing Awards' 'Electoral College', with the remainder split equally between a panel of journalists and experts on the one hand, and a public vote comprising viewers of ITV Racing and readers of the Racing Post and Daily Telegraph on the other.
