Elite Racing Club member recovering after being knocked down at York

An elderly member of the Elite Racing Club is recovering in hospital after an accident between the pre-parade and paddock before the Listed sprint at York last Saturday.

One of six syndicate members with badges attending York to watch Judicial, who finished fourth, was following Cotai Glory out of the pre-parade area when that runner stopped and backed into him.

William Derby, York's chief executive and clerk of the course, said: "The gentleman was knocked over and we put up the green screens for his privacy with our medical team on the scene immediately – our parade ring safety manager was ten yards away and she co-ordinated everything.

"Because of his age we sent him to York District Hospital along with one of our team. He was by himself at the races and I rang his wife immediately. We have kept in contact and he was comfortable in hospital."
