Egg Tart serves up a treat in Queensland Oaks for Waller
Doomben: Treasury Brisbane Queensland Oaks | (Group 1) | 1m3f
Egg Tart emulated her champion stablemate Winx when storming to victory in the Queensland Oaks at Doomben on Saturday.
Egg Tart (21-10) charged home to beat Pygmy (40-1) by a length and a quarter, with a short neck to Oklahoma Girl (8-1) in third place.
It was trainer Chris Waller's second victory in the race after his great mare Winx scored in 2015 when it was also run at Doomben.
Waller, who had seven runners in the race, immediately ruled out sending out Egg Tart in the Queensland Derby next Saturday but he is looking towards the spring with the filly, who made it six wins in a row.
Waller said he liked Egg Tart because she was a consistent horse who liked racing. "When she won a race at Flemington three starts back I began to think she was a genuine Group One horse," he said.
"She travelled well down there and handled everything about it."
Winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy, who was winning his eighth Group 1 of the season, said: "Egg Tart is a fantastic filly. She had a turn of foot to get me out of trouble after we got caught behind some slow ones.
"I think she has a big future and I'm looking forward to the spring," he said.
