Duke of Richmond Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox dies aged 87
Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, tenth Duke of Richmond, Lennox, Aubigny and fifth Duke of Gordon, has died peacefully at Goodwood house aged 87.
The former chartered accountant, who held a number of senior positions in the Anglican church, was also the former chairman of Goodwood racecourse and is credited with rebuilding it to its current status.
The Goodwood Estate said in a statement: "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of His Grace The Duke of Richmond and Gordon. The Duke died peacefully at Goodwood."
Gordon-Lennox with his wife Susan Monica Grenville-Grey, the Countess of March, hosted the international dressage championships at Goodwood for 21 years as well as having five children and adopting two more.
One of their children, also called Charles, founded Goodwood's Festival of Speed and the Goodwood revival and will now inherit his father's title, becoming the 11th Duke of Richmond.
