David Bass was on Sunday still coming to terms with his thrilling success aboard First Flow in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot and admitted the occasion left him so drained emotionally he only got round to watching a replay the following morning.

Bass earned plenty of plaudits for his bold spin on Tony Solomons' likeable nine-year-old, who got the better of Champion Chase hero Politologue in stunning style.

Trained by Kim Bailey, the prolific First Flow, who has won ten of his 18 starts, is as short as 8-1 with Betfred for the Betway-backed Champion Chase at March's Cheltenham Festival – a prospect the rider is relishing.
