Jack Doyle has undergone successful surgery in New York after sustaining fractures when his mount fell on top of him during the Grade 1 Lonesome Glory Hurdle at Belmont on Thursday.

Doyle, the leading jump jockey in the United States this year, was riding Rudyard K when the partnership came to grief at the final fence when holding second place.

Bill Gallo, director of racing of the National Steeplechase Association, said on Friday: "It was a nasty fall at the tenth and last fence. The horse kind of fell and then twisted over and fell on top of Jack."
