John Gosden has called news of increased prize-money levels from September no more than "a step in the right direction".

The champion trainer echoed fellow licence-holder John Quinn's warning in the Racing Post Weekender that British racing is in danger of becoming a nursery for other parts of the world if levels are not boosted, with owners forced to sell horses to countries which offer better returns.

Minimum values will increase at all levels from September 1, with the Levy Board boosting its contribution to £26.6 million over the four months until the end of the year, a 50 per cent increase on the original allocation of £17.7m.
