It's One Master v Limato v the rest in brilliant Park Stakes showdown

Forget the St Leger and the Irish Champion Stakes, the real clash of the titans takes place earlier on Saturday – weather permitting.

Two colossi over seven furlongs, with 12 Group wins and earnings of nearly £2.2 million between them, finally take each other on.

Not that they have been dodging each other. These are not prizefighters, shadow boxing and talking a good fight while ducking any actual contest.

Rather, they are chalk and cheese going-wise and hopefully the ground remains close enough to good for them both to enter the ring on a neutral surface.

One Master is a fine mare with give in the ground and has won the Prix de la Foret for the last two years. She showed herself as good as ever when quickening from a seemingly impossible position to land the Oak Tree Stakes at Goodwood in July.

However, she did not get the run of the race behind Safe Voyage at York last month and will need to be at her best to cope with top-of-the-ground specialist Limato, who has been short of chances in this soggy summer but won this in 2015 and has been a Group-race fixture ever since.

He won a good-ground Foret at Chantilly in 2016 and his smooth defeat of the smart Happy Power at Newmarket in June makes him the only eight-year-old among the top 50 British and Irish horses of 2020 on Racing Post Ratings.

He gives five years to Molatham and Wichita, who return to the course and distance over which they fought out the finish to a juvenile Listed event 12 months ago.

Places over a mile in the 2,000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes mean Wichita has achieved the higher rating this season, but Jersey Stakes winner Molatham has the better seven furlong form and may have found the Prix Jean Prat too sharp a test at Deauville last time.

What they say

Henry Candy, trainer of Limato
There have been a few abortive attempts this so-called summer but his comeback run was brilliant. It's a very high-class Park Stakes and he might struggle with one or two of them but he'll enjoy himself. He's a great enthusiast and he's fit and well. It would be quite incredible to win the race again after five years – he's a bit of a legend.

Alastair Donald of King Power Racing, owners of Shine So Bright
He should finally get some quick ground. He's had a couple of goes over six furlongs but this is definitely his best trip. He's training well and should run a good race but One Master and Limato could be tough to beat.

Richard Hannon, trainer of Urban Icon
We are struggling to win with him but he’s a very talented horse who's got some pretty good form to his name. I think seven furlongs on a track like this will be right up his street and the quicker the ground the better.

Stuart Williams, trainer of Breathtaking Look
We could have run in the Sceptre Stakes again but she's won two Group 3 races now and the owner was keen to have another go at the Group 2. Her form is rock-solid, she's was second to Oxted and Dream Of Dreams, she was unlucky not to win at York and she won well the other day. She's been great for us this year.

William Haggas, trainer of One Master
She ran fine last time, it was a funny race and they didn't go very hard. They'll go harder on Saturday, which will suit her.

Roger Varian, trainer of Molatham
He's in great form. I'm looking forward to getting him back on track. I don't think he ran his race at Deauville but it still wasn't a bad run.
