The Vertem Futurity Trophy, Britain's last Group 1 race of the Flat season, is set to be run in "really testing" conditions at Doncaster on Saturday (3.35).

A total of 26mm of rain fell on the course on Thursday night and the going was changed officially to heavy after another 5mm came down midway through Friday's card.

Clerk of the course Paul Barker said: "It's heavy but they are getting through it. We could get another 2mm or 3mm before midnight, then it will start to dry and it will be really testing tomorrow."

Cheltenham 'dry on Saturday'

Some 10mm of rain on Friday eased the ground at Cheltenham to good but the rain is forecast to stop tonight and conditions will remain dry on Saturday.

"We could get some more showers into the early evening and it dries up overnight and will stay dry tomorrow," said clerk of the course Jon Pullin.

"The jockeys are still calling it good ground; they're just kicking the top off."
