Dewhurst favourite Native Trail leaves gallops companion trailing in key workout
Godolphin’s Qipco 2,000 Guineas favourite Native Trail advertised his credentials for the Group 1 Darley Dewhurst Stakes on Saturday week with a scintillating workout in Newmarket on Thursday morning.
Making his first appearance in public since his impressive win in the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh, the unbeaten son of Oasis Dream covered six furlongs on the Limekilns under William Buick and left his lead horse in another county.
After watching the workout alongside jockey James Doyle, trainer Charlie Appleby said: “Native Trail is a more switched on model these days and he seems as if he’s got a proper racing brain on him now. I liked the work this morning and William was pleased with the way he kicked clear of a proper lead horse in the shape of Bright Melody."
